The Hill

To get to the house that I’m staying at, you can utilize three modes of transportation: the bus, a cab or your legs. Obviously using your legs is the most economical way to get to the top of the hill, which is about 6 short blocks from the bottom. A cab is the most expensive but the quickest, and the bus, well, it only comes every 20 minutes so it’s up to you.

And while I use my legs to get down the hill, I have to contemplate what I use to get back up it because it is one damn steep hill. Coming to the bottom of the hill from town takes about 25 minutes, and it took me an additional 12 minutes to walk up the few short blocks one day. It was very hot out that day too.

I try to walk as much as I can so that I can “have the legs of a stallion” and until today, I wasn’t sure if the pink cheeks after were worth it.

While walking up the hill today after going to the post office, I saw a little boy, maybe 7 years old, Razor scootering uphill and thought, “Damn. If he’s trying that hard, walking up this hill can’t be that bad.

I never imagined a Razor scooter would put me in my place.

About mmmiller05

If Marcia Miller had to pick up everything and leave, then she'd make sure to grab a few things before she left. First, the duffel bag is a must, followed by her laptop and iPod. She grabs her journal next, along with every CD she owns - just in case. Miller pulls off the pictures and concert tickets that adorn her walls. A towel is going to be handy too - this she learned from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." Finally, she grabs a handful of pens and her trusty AP Stylebook, throws her duffel back over her back and picks up her purse. Closing the door behind her, she leaves her apartment, heads down the stairs and... Well, Miller heads to your office because she's ready to do a job. She is ready to move at a moment's notice, write what needs to be written, edit what needs to be edited, promote what you think the world needs to know about. Miller's got the personality, the skills and the spunk to succeed in any situation. She's not afraid of trying new things or getting her feet wet. Her moto: If an opportunity doesn't present itself, then create one.
